League Descriptions

MIXED CURLING

Join as an individual, with a friend or as a couple - members of any skill level who wish to curl in a social atmosphere.

The mixed leagues are social-oriented leagues where curlers of all skills (beginners to experts) can enjoy the sport. Members may curl in one or more of the following leagues.

Sunday Adult Novice League

Learn the sport of curling.  Games times alternate between 6:30pm & 8:30pm.  This league is intended for curlers with 0-3 year’s experience.  Club curling brooms are provided.

Friday 4:30pm League

The Club has dinner upstairs after these games for all members and guests except for the final games of each draw when we order pizza in the lounge and also awarded prizes top  three teams.  New members welcome.

Wednesday/Friday Mixed League

Wednesday - Game times 7:00pm with the possibility of some 9:00pm games if there are more than 12 teams.

  Friday - Game times alternate between 7:00pm & 9:00pm.

The season has 3 draws of 5 to 7 games and teams reshuffled at every draw to promote the social aspect of the league. Not to worry, "curling couples" stay together throughout the year...unless otherwise requested.

During the playoffs Wednesday and Friday curlers come together. Draw winning teams and teams made up of individuals with the best points compete is a double-knockout format. The two-week playoff culminates with the mid-April Saturday championship games and not to be missed Mixed league closing dinner and evening.

LADIES CURLING

Day Ladies League

Welcome!  The day ladies section of the Whitby Curling Club has a variety of leagues available to you. All our games are from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.

Monday and Thursday  leagues have three draws throughout the season with approximately 6 or 7 games per draw. You are placed on a different team for each draw. At the end of each draw the team that has accumulated the most points is awarded the trophy as well as a prize. Prizes are also awarded to the second and third place teams. You have the option to curl either Monday, Thursday, both days, or, you may just choose to spare.

Tuesday is our Skip’s Entry league. You enter as a team and play together for the year. There are three draws which consist of one draw of regular game play, one draw of skins format and the third draw is our play off. If you are interested in playing in this league please contact our Games Convenors and they will be happy to place you on a team if there is available space.

Leads & Seconds league is for curlers who are rated as a lead or second and who wish to experience curling in the skip and vice positions.  There are four scheduled games per season which are played against other area curling clubs. If you are interested in this league or would like additional information, please contact Linda Doyle.

In addition to our league play, there are bonspiels, euchre nights and club activities in which you can participate. We hope you will join us.

Business Ladies League

Other league activities include Christmas party, a bonspiel in February and an end of season dinner and awards evening; trophies are awarded to draw winners, and prizes to the top three teams in each draw.   Contact: Belinda Solly

Sunday Evening Ladies

Join this fun, competitive league as a team or individual.  Games are played every other Sunday evening with the majority of games being played at 6:30pm, however there are a few 8:30pm games.

This is primarily a team entry league however, we are more than happy to help individuals find a team to play with. We begin in October and end late in March. It is a great league to come out and play with the same ladies all year - a great way to improve your game.

Each game is recorded and points are given for win, tie, and ends won. At the end of the season points are totalled. Four teams go to play in the A division playoffs and four teams go on to play in the B division playoffs.

Final games are played at 5:30 pm centre ice while the rest of the league gathers for drinks and snacks to cheer on the teams. Following the game we go for a nice dinner where we present the winners with a trophy, eat great food with great company and say our farewells until the following season.

The teams with the most points in each division are qualified to go into the playoffs as a teamThere are usually 16 teams that go into the playoffs. They are the qualified teams plus teams that have been put together based on individual points earned through the season. The Men's Rated trophy is called the Piddler because it has the original pebbler mounted on it that was used by Whitby Curling Club at its previous location decades ago.

During the season each player is awarded the points their team earned in each draw. At the end of the season, the player with the most accumulated points is awarded the Glinz Memorial Trophy.
